Launched in 2008, the Door County Half Marathon is much more than a race.
Founder David Eliot explains that the annual run in Peninsula State Park was created to spur shoulder season business in Door County and inspire businesses to open their doors earlier in May. In eight years the race has done just that, spurring more than an estimated one million dollars in revenue for the county every spring.
Now, the peninsula is hopping on the first Saturday of May as more than 2,300 runners and their families and friends fill coffee shops, restaurants, bars and stores.
See how a race has helped redefine a season and a community, extending the tourism season while showcasing the very best Door County has to offer.
